About Me

Hi! I’m Jessica Rosen, a senior studying Sustainability, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and Communication at Muhlenberg College.

I’m passionate about finding ways to create, enhance and amplify sustainability within people’s lifestyles and business practices. Sustainability is relevant to every industry, whether we see it at first glance, or not.

Supporting collective change on the Muhlenberg campus, I revived the dormant club enACT, Muhlenberg’s Environmental Action Team. Over the past three years, I have transformed enACT into a powerful ever-growing community of impact composed of 200+ students, faculty, staff, and neighbors. I have spearheaded over 115 events and uplifted student projects, passions, and voices through collaborating with over 30 diverse student organizations, local businesses, and nonprofits.

For the spring I have an internship with Allentown Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC), which advises the local government on environmental matters affecting the city of Allentown. My key project is to conduct a Greenhouse Gas Inventory of the City of Allentown. The results of this work will allow the city to deeply understand their environmental impact. The data will track trends in emissions that I will use to create recommendations for Allentown regarding cost-effective strategies to achieve reduction targets.

My deep affection for the natural world was instilled in me by my parents from a young age. I was fortunate enough to have spent much of my childhood outdoors, hiking, playing with worms after a rainstorm, and generally playing with my friends in nature. Surrounded by a family of early childhood educators (my mother and grandmother), I learned the importance of STEM fields from an early age. I attribute my forever-learning attitude to them which kickstarted my love for protecting natural resources.

Junior year of high school, I took it upon myself to design a year-long curriculum for the Thielke Arboretum’s Youth SAN program, which taught children ages (5-14) about science through art. I focused on educating on how climate change threatens local and global communities, and the actions children and parents can take for a better world in the economic, social and environmental sense. The program evolved into a year-long gap year experience where I pursued my passion for environmental education, science communication, project management and stakeholder engagement.

This website outlines a case study of Miami, Florida and the current and impending challenges Miami, Florida is facing due to climate change and other key environmental issues. Thorough examination of public and private structures I will identify challenges, barriers to change, and a detailed explanation of potential solutions that can be employed to counteract identified problems. View the Definition of Sustainability that will underpin this examination.
